Week Twelve ~ Bible Study Blog

I can't believe that we will be finishing up our Bible study next week. Where has the time gone? Returning home after spending a week in Belize with my husband, I find myself still in the Caribbean mode--slow moving and slow thinking. The white sands, turquoise waters, and the palm trees swaying in the breeze were wonderful, but I still say there is no place like home.  So now, we will s-l-o-w-l-y dive into Week 12.

Week 12 ~ Working in Rhythm with The Master ~ Serving God is challenging and exciting, and never boring.  If we're bored, guess what? It's not God's fault.  We're either too wrapped up in our own little world, or we're not listening to the Holy Spirit.
We should know by now that there is a difference between being bored, and resting.  With our fast-paced lives and hectic schedules, we need time to slow down and rest in the Lord.  He always knows when we need to take a break.  As we learn to listen to Him, then we'll know too, hence saving a lot of stress. (I'm so glad I was listening when He told me to go rest in Belize for a week.)
As we learn to depend more on the Holy Spirit, we become more excited to do God's work.  It's the daily infilling of the Holy Spirit that keeps us enthusiastic.  As we submit to the Holy Spirit, we will continue to receive answers to many of our questions.
God will use us wherever He has placed us.  I went to Bible school with students of all ages who thought they must be in full-time ministry to fulfill God's call on their lives.  Today, many of them are great pastors, teachers, and evangelists.  However, even more students have found that they can be used as effectively in the work place.
Rob and I have been on staff at several churches as pastors and we love to teach, pray and encourage people.  But we also know that God can use us outside the church walls.  Have you noticed how some people have a tendency to close up when a pastor walks in a room?  But as you allow God's light to shine through you, people will be drawn to you, often when you least expect it.  As we walk in the Holy Spirit, God will lead people across our paths.  There is nothing more rewarding in life than to be used of God in this way.
As we surrender our will to His perfect will, He will lead you to your own personal ministry.  Whether it be our own business, working for a company, or staying home with our children, those who give up their lives will actually gain them (Philippians 1:21).
I used to fear that if I gave up my will, then God would put me in a place where I'd be miserable.  When I realized that God knew me better than I knew myself, I let go.  I've had many jobs and careers throughout my life and I can say that God has always led me to an even better one each time.  I've learned to trust His choices for my life.
Take some time this week to write down your strengths.  What brings excitement to your life?  This is usually where you will find your calling.  I love to write and I love to encourage women of all ages.  I'm not looking to be a rich and famous writer.  I'm looking to help change lives, one by one.  That is where my fulfillment comes from.  But, hey, if I become rich and famous, I won't complain, and you'll be the first to know!
Where do you start?  Look around.  Reach out and touch someone--a neighbor, a friend, a co-worker, someone on vacation--through a simple act of kindness.  That's a beginning.  As we're faithful in the small things, God will take us to a higher level.  At the end of the day, we want to hear God say:
Blessed is the man who heareth Me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.  Proverbs 8:34
